THIS IS THE LADYFEST BELLINGHAM 2009 ARCHIVE! PLEASE VISIT
THE CURRENT WEBSITE FOR UP TO DATE INFORMATION.

Aconitum - Poetic melodic metal. This band knows their way around a double-kick pedal.

Kristin Allen-Zito - Frontwoman for beloved B'ham band THE TRUCKS (R.I.P.), Kristin steadily fingerpicks her acoustic guitar and keeps you hanging on her every word. She will lead oceanic sing-a-longs and then, quietly, unexpectedly, break your heart as you pause for breath between bursts of laughter.

Anna Arvan - A cello and the sweetest voice this side of Olympia. You may recognize her from I LOVE YOU AVALANCHE, GO SLOWPOKE, SNOW CUTS GLASS, CAN I BE SHE-RA?, or any of the gazillion other projects she has graced with her lovely presence.

Augustine - Darkness and dawn on piano keys.

Bash Brothers - The Bash Brothers are two girls who subscribe to Andrew W.K.'s philosophy that there are few things better than just playing loud, sloppy, exuberant rock. And they sure do it well.

Kayla Brogden - Shockingly charming songs will fall into your lap like a handful of gold-wrapped chocolate coins.

Valerie Brogden - Tap-dancing ukelele-strumming super scientist.

Button Bottom - Burlesque by Bellingham’s own Holli Fontaine.

Connecticut Four - Former members of Racetrack, Paxil Rose, and Mechanical Dolls (so basically, a supergroup, but in the awesome sense, not the Slash side-project sense). Challenge: try NOT to grin in delight throughout their whole set. Their hooks will give you cavities and make you want to play air-drums all night.

Council of Lions - Shivering NW girl punk birthed in winter basements.

Cumulus - For lake-swimmers and FM-listeners and everyone who has a crush on Anacortes.

Amber Darland - Darland’s intensely personal music has the passion reminiscent of Patty Griffin, Lucinda Williams and Shawn Colvin and the soulfulness of k.d. lang, the Carpenters and Dar Williams.

Jen Dickenson – Powerhouse performance piece on mothers’ and grandmothers’ passed down idioms and wisdom.

Dirty Bird Cabaret - Fancy-ass, neo-burlesque dance routines with rock-n-roll flavor are our specialty.

Donkey Skin - Named after the creepiest of Perrault's fairy tales, this is the Dark Crystal colliding with Mazzy Star.

Madeleine Easton - Do you like Tegan & Sara at their most vulnerable and acoustic moments? Then Madeleine's agile-voiced songs will probably fit you like a glove.

Femme Uke - Sweet and dirty jams that are made out of ukelele and guitar and best friendship.

Her Jazz Noise Collective - "This is an experimental music network for women in Vancouver (B.C.). We are determined to help create an inclusive noise community and supportive space for women to meet and experiment musically. We hope this project will be a catalyst for the formation of more female-based groups in this genre. We are trans-inclusive, please and thank you! No experience or commitment it required - just the desire to try... This is not a band, its the beginning of a more radical, open, posi-core community invested in dialogue about gender, power and personal experience."

Coty Hogue - Coty is the Bellingham folk community's best-kept secret. Without exaggerating, she is the Emmylou Harris of a new generation. She will give you the chills; catch her while you still can.

Deborah Lutz - Music pours through her veins and then spills out onto the keyboard.

Briana Marela - Clarion-voiced singer-songwriter from Olympia.

Clare Mercy - One-woman guitar-shredding vision.

NighTraiN - There is more punk rock in one drop of NighTraiN's sweat than in a dozen Warped Tours.

Oh I See - Anne of Green Gables-concept band from Vancouver, B.C. Seriously: OMG. Also: WHOA.

Pan Pan - Sometimes it is boring to watch someone jam out on piano. Sarah Jerns' instrumental project is the opposite of that. She might blow a flugelhorn in your face while simultaneously pounding out a march on her keyboard, and she's backed by some seriously stellar musician friends.

Post Post Fuck Fuck - All-girl radical feminist noise project. Get together, bang on drums, scream with your friends about what breaks your heart and what makes you keep fighting.

Sarah the Songbird - “She plays fucking CRYSTAL BOWLS and it's probably the most epic performance I've ever seen.” - Katie

Jessica Sele - “I dance in my underwear while playing my trumpet and tell stories of my failures and awkward sexual encounters.” *** Spindle - Long-running NW melodic rock powerhouse, Spindle is known for blurring the line between genres, creating unique music, and putting on a hell of a show.

Tacocat - Mile-a-minute songs about ponies, peeps, and PAP smears. Proof that the riot grrl dream is still alive in the NW.

Teeath - Teenage inheritors of Sleater-Kinney's crown.

Telepathic Liberation Army - Rising from the ashes of queercore outfit DIAMOND CUT DIAMOND, underground no-wave sensation SHOPLIFTING, and other Seattle movers + shakers, TLA is tangled guitars and Joan Jett-levels of badass-ery.

Thimble vs. Needle - Tart folk songs from one of Bellingham's finest musicians, Kat Bula.

Your Heart Breaks - Once Bellingham, always Bellingham. These sparse homo pop love songs are some of the most intimate and hopeful you will ever meet. Like Clyde says: Love is a long dark road (love is all you need).

Nicole Zapel - How is this lady so awesome? I do not know. But she will sing some songs for you and you will be amazed.
